Personally, I would rank the performers overall, including - but not just - the famed chest notes required in this aria, and also taking into account vocal expression and musicality, in this respective order: 1 - Saioa Hernández 2 - Eliane Coelho 3 - Ekaterina Semenchuk 4 - Anna Netrebko 5 - Anna Pirozzi 6 - Carmen Giannattasio 7 - Hui He 8 - Angela Gheorghiu 10 - Violeta Urmana 11 - Elisabete Matos 12 - Elaine Morais 13 - Viktoria Safronova The weakest in the compilation are IMO Uria-Monzon (strange that a mezzo should have such weak low register) and Marrocu.

I know that all classical music or at least bach music was played veeeeeryyyyy slowly before but God, what a slow lullaby ! Where is the sorrow ? where is the pain ? It just sounds like a tired lament. Even the last part that should be sung with force and some kind of joyful anger sounds just weak to me. Oh, and that english version :/ It loose at least half of its strength when it's not in german. Great singer, but please, in german, if not a bit faster. Check the Tölzer version (Panito Iconomou and Christophe Coin) with Harnoncourt and tell me this english version is better, if you dare ^^

Fabulous.... When Bing fired Maria Callas, they had to have a quick replacement in essence as she or nobody could double Callas, however she superceded all expectations. She took her opportunity and she ran with it and won the race. God Bless you Anna.

Who said that she lost her low notes in the 70’s …. Ahahah… she never had any as we can hear in this video. As we all know a good low-middle register is the fondation of singing. If you do not master it, it has an impact on the entire voice: nothing is clear, bad vowels, bad consonants and the high register is weak. Yes’ I KNOW you will say that her high notes were very loud! But loud does not mean good singing. The high notes are WEAK. This aria was way too difficult for her limited technique. What’s wrong with singing lyric music that your voice is made for and training some chest voice into your sound so that you’re not off pitch and voce ingolata? Εχω ακουσει ολες τις μεγαλες λυρικες φωνες δεκαδες φορες. Η φωνη της Καλλας απεχει παρασαγγας απο τις αλλες. Σε μια μουσικη της φραση βγαζει τετοια μουσικη δεξιοτεχνεια , τοσα ηχοχρωματα μοναδικα που ειναι σα να ακους την τελειοτερη ορχηστρα του κοσμου σε μια μουσικη φραση. Ας μην τολμησουμε να πουμε για την εκταση και την δυναμη που εχει η φωνη της. Χιλιες φορες να ακουσω το υποτιθεμενο λαθος της φωνης της που δεν υπαρχει γιατι και αυτο τελειο θα ειναι παρα τα χιλιαδες σωστα των αλλων. Το φαινομενο ΚΑΛΛΑΣ ηταν ειναι και θα ειναι μοναδικο και αξεπεραστο. Τα υπολοιπα ειναι για να κανουμε κουβεντα για το τιποτα.

Fastest voice in the West! Not only did Sills have a glorious voice in her prime, but she was also the best, the very best singing actress I have ever seen. In comparison, Maria Callas was a ham--corny and melodramatic with no great sense of physicality.

The problem at LaScala was that some of the runs in Sempre Libre weren't working as well. Some people there like to boo an artist.

Cristina Deutekom owns this aria! JMHO.
